The Hockessin Fire Company is always seeking volunteers to join our ranks as Firefighters & Rescue First Responders. Our volunteers take pride in helping others in their time of need, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. We have been serving Hockessin since 1936, but to keep the tradition going, we need you! It’s rewarding to help others, plus you will learn valuable skills and forge friendships that will last a lifetime.
Interested in joining us? Just know that firefighting is hard work. It takes a strong commitment to become proficient, but if you are willing to put the time in, we promise you will get alot out of it! Once you become a member, you will attend weekend training courses at Delaware State Fire School in Dover. The station also offers in-house training to keep skills sharp.
And it’s not just about firefighting. We also need members in administrative roles, or maybe you have other skills that we need like computer skills, accounting, or other aspects of running the business side of the operation.

*Important note: Hockessin is not currently seeking people interested in EMS or “Ambulance only” membership as we have a career staff that maintains our EMS service. Also, we do not have a program for EMT students to perform their ride-along hours on our unit. Training as an EMT is limited to our members that are active within our company, completed basic fire school classes and served a minimum of 50 volunteer hours at the station.
