Station 19 was alerted to an MVC, with car reported in the water. Rescue 19 arrived first on-scene to find a car upside down in White Clay Creek with only the front tires and some of the rear out of the water. An eyewitness to the accident advised that no one had escaped the vehicle yet. Rescue 19 officer called for additional resources to include a dive team. The crew of Rescue 19 attempted to mount a water rescue as Tower 19 arrived on-scene with 19-8 taking command. A primary search yielded one occupant who was moved to shore and turned over to the medics who were unable to revive her. The crews of Rescue 19 and Tower 19 attached chain to the car and used the tower as a crane to raise the car and allow for a more thorough secondary search. During the secondary search rescuers found that a dog had survived in a small air pocket left in the vehicle. Marine units conduted a search of the car and the area around the car. There were no other occupants. A fire police officer took the dog to an emergency center for animals. The sence was turned over to DSP and Yorklyn road was closed for a few hours as DSP investgated the site. In addition to Rescue and Tower 19, other responding companies and resources include Millcreek, Cranston Heights, Holloway Terrace, Mininquas, the New Castle County Paramedics, and the State Police.
